Washing woolen clothes

Do you think cleaning wool clothes is complicated?
The special fiber structure of wool ensures that dirt and odors can hardly stick. Wool practically cleans itself.

It is often enough to air smelly woolen clothing outside.
Coarse dirt, for example if the child has crawled across the playground, can be easily beaten or brushed out after drying. Wool clothing only needs to be washed if it is very dirty.

You can wash them either by hand or in the washing machine on the wool cycle at 20 degrees. A special wool detergent or wool soap will replenish the fat and maintain the protective barrier of the fiber.

I pre-wash all the sweaters that I make into Jawoll pieces in the machine inside out and hang them on the line to dry without pegs. Caution: Higher temperatures or too much mechanical stress during washing, especially in combination, cause the material to felt.

If you wash by hand, the water should be cold and you should avoid rubbing or wringing.
To dry, you can gently squeeze the wool item between two towels and then let it dry lying down.
From my own experience, I can say that I have to wash my daughter’s wool items much less often than “normal” items made of cotton or blended fabrics.

Whereas trousers usually last a day, wool trousers can be worn for a very long time. Dirt disappears all by itself. Overall, you have less laundry with wool.
